Rainier National Park
“READ as much about it as you will..” says it all in this 1913 Milwaukee Line advertisement out of The Empress Theater Program. Again, we can see the heavy text based style that was popular in the early 20th century. Instead of describing the activities the tourists can do on the mountains like in the Tacoma’s Eastern Railroad’s advertisement, they describe Mount Rainier itself. Specifically, they describe some interesting facts about the mountain: It was the highest mountain(at the time), and has a glacial system larger than the Swiss Alps.
One possible reason for this design choice may have been because it was an advertised in a theater program. Someone with a program in a theater would be more likely to spend a little time reading through the program than someone walking down the street and reading this on a poster.
